Saggar Pieces are created from a special firing process called saggar firing. The pot is placed inside another vessel (this is actually the saggar), with some combustibles like hay, horse hair, seaweed, and sawdust. Different color oxides are mixed in with these combustibles. During firing, these colors are patterns are burned onto the piece. Due to this process, every piece is unique.
Since saggar pieces are fired to a lower temperature and don’t use traditional glazes, these works of art are purely decorative - they do not hold water.

**Now that I have a new kiln, I’ll be converting my old kiln to gas and will hopefully be firing my own saggars! **
